  • Can't get pilot list

If you are trying to add a pilot, and you have entered your User ID and API Key, and you have tapped the Pilot cell and no pilot list populates into the picker control, one of two things is happening. Most likely, the API Key or User ID are incorrect. (I know, it's a total pain in the butt to enter those. Trust me, I'm aware, and I've been through it too.) If you think the key is correct and still no pilots are fetched, then you may have a network connectivity problem (the 3G network is flakey these days); or, the EVE web service is unavailable (which happens during scheduled maintenance and occaisionally throughout the day).

Once you are able to see the pilot picker control populate, you know your API key is entered correctly.

If you are certain you have entered your api key correctly and are still having problems, please contact support. Or, you may wish to try your key here.

I recommend copying your api key to a text edit, adjusting the font to Monaco so you can clearly see which characters are 1's, or l's, or 0's, or O's, etc. And then entering the key into the phone. Another suggestion made on the EVE Forums by Research Rachel was to try this page for help discerning between the characters in your key.

UPDATE: Good news folks. I have added a feature that will parse the EVE page for your UserID and API Key. This feature will be available in the next release (1.1). Sorry I didn't have it earlier.

  • Can't get pilot data

If you have added a pilot successfully, but are unable to access your pilot's data, the problem is either network or EVE service downtime. When this happens, you will see the alert dialog saying "Unable to access EVE service at this time." Just try the reload button at the bottom left corner of your pilot view a little later.

  • My pilot's portrait doesn't render

This is often the case with newly created pilots. You'll just have to wait a few days. But I have also read that, at least in the past, CCP wouldn't post your portrait to the web service unless you made posts to the EVE Forums. That seemed to be the case with my first pilot. EVEMon has a similar issue you can read about. But note that EVE Tracker cannot apply the workaround that EVEMon has because, quite simply, we don't have the game installed on the phone nor would we have access to it if it was.

In the meantime, you get the lovely default question mark portrait. Sorry.

  • Data not updating

If there was a network error, you will see an alert dialog box indicating such. Timeouts occur by default at 5 seconds when your phone already has a network connection established, and 30 seconds when one is not. However, if there is no network error and no alert dialog, then the issue is probably caching. The EVE web services explicitly state how long the data delivered will be cached. In the case of the pilot data (which includes corp name, skill list, isk balance, etc.), I've seen that data have up to a one hour cache time. In the case of the currently training skill, it is up to 15 minutes. EVE Tracker respects this cache time. Meaning, if you trigger a reload and the current time is less than the expiration time provided with the data, then EVE Tracker cancels the request as there would be no point fetching the data again.
